Catch Up Post

The days are flying by with tons of riding and sights and meeting people. Lots of great times and laughter as well - unfortunately, not as much sleep as we all would like!

On Day 6 we left Pismo Beach with a later start, allowing some of the more fitness-minded among us time for a run or walk along the beach - the rest, a bit of a sleep in.  At the luxurious hour of 11am we rolled out and headed our way south to Los Angeles.  We got to our hotel in time for a quick shower and and change before all piling into the RV for a trip into downtown LA to the ESPN Zone.  We had a skybox reserved with dinner for our team and guests.  Guests which included Lori's sister and new brother-in-law-to-be, Michelle and Sean.  The ESPN Zone was the perfect place for us to cheer on our Canucks in a disappointing final game of the Stanley Cup playoffs.

The next morning we left LAX at about 10am.  Lucky for me, my friend Jenny dropped by with her triplets to visit just minutes before our departure.  I hadn't seen Jenny since work crew days up at Malibu and, thanks to Facebook,  managed to reconnect a couple years ago.  The kids loved the bikes, the trailer and especially the RV!

We stopped for lunch in Barstow, CA - home of Peggy Sue's Diner.  Total 50's kitsch complete with an Elvis fortune teller: "You'll find a helping hand at the end of your arm" was Dr T's helpful advice from the King.

We arrived in Vegas and checked in to our rooms at the MGM Signature.  After a team meeting, we were all so exhausted that it was likely the quietest night most of us had ever spent in Sin City.

The morning of Day 8 was HOT - even at 7am - the time of our departure for Phoenix.  Our goal was to try and beat the heat as best we could because Phoenix was going to be even hotter.  As wehit town, we made a stop at Best Western's Head office - 59 of our 64 hotel nights during this journey are going to be at Best Western Hotels.  Head office was thrilled to have us come by and were ready with cold drinks, snacks and gifts for all of us.  They gave us a tour and we met Amir, who has been our saviour with last minute hotel changes.

Friday night we went down to Chester's Harley Davidson in Mesa and joined into their Friday Night Dinner Ride.  We rode along with a group of about 25 from the local HOG chapter to Hero's Sports Pub & Restaurant.  All those bikes heading out on the street makes for quite a statement.  Great people, great food and a great night.

Saturday was a day off from riding.  We had a chance to rest, do laundry, relax and catch up on work and personal stuff.  During the afternoon we went up to North Phoenix where we spent a few hours at the Sandbar Desert Ridge.  Lots of people dropped by to say hi and donate toward our tour beneficiaries.
